Set amidst landscaped gardens filled with gentle swaying coconut palms and frangipani, the 4-Star La Pirogue overlooks more than a kilometre of immaculate white sand that fringes the beautiful turquoise lagoon.
Offering privacy, tranquillity and the romance of an island paradise, everything at La Pirogue is reminiscent of the traditional Mauritian fishing boat from which the resort takes its name; from the main building inspired by a white sail floating in the wind to the cottages built in local volcanic rock and crowned with wood and thatch.
Location
On the West Coast of the island near Flic en Flac, La Pirogue is a 45 minute drive from the capital, Port Louis.
Rooms
La Pirogue offers space and privacy and the resort is renowned for the warmth of its personnel. All of our Mauritian bungalows have their own private, comfortably furnished rooms and a terrace looking out into the majestic coconut grove that stretches as far as the white sands of the beach.
A choice of three room types, Standard Garden, Superior Ocean Front or the Royal Suites is available and all guestrooms are at ground-level and open privately onto the magnificent palm grove and the Indian Ocean.
Each room features air-conditioning, ceiling fan, twin beds or a double bed, stand up rain shower cubicle, bathtub, toilet, electric razor socket, mini-bar, safe, hairdryer, WiFi, flat screen TV, IDD telephone, tea and coffee facility and private patio.
The spacious Royal Suites boast large living and dining areas, bathrooms with bath, bidet and toilet and all the features of the Superior Ocean Front rooms.
Restaurant/Bar
On the terrace is Thatches, the spacious and tropical main restaurant in the hotel’s traditional Mauritian theme, where you can enjoy hearty breakfasts to start the day.
Dinner is served in a world cuisine atmosphere with Asian, Indian and Mediterranean accents around the central ingredients of traditional Mauritian cuisine. For romantic moments, Thatches Mauritian restaurant offers guests the privacy of a thatched cabana overlooking the “decorative pond “.
The Paul & Virginie is a truly Mauritian restaurant offering an à la carte menu. Paul & Virginie is set by the beach and specialises in fresh seafood, seafood grills and other barbecue items. At lunch tasty Mauritian cuisine and local specialities are on offer and at dinner a more sophisticated menu with a focus on fresh fish and seafood is available. The extensive wine list includes a variety of South African and New World wines.
The international cuisine served at Tides, the beach restaurant, is a joy to sample and savour, where recipes burst with creativity and flavour and celebrate the sea. For lunch, Tides offers a light menu that you can savour next to the pool. The dinner menu at Tides is deliciously innovative, sophisticated and surprising.
The ocean-side Citronella’s Cafe offers a menu which includes light lunches, pizzas and salads. The dinner menu offers fine cuisine inspired by traditional regional Italian dishes.
The Blue Bar offers a wide choice of contemporary tropical cocktails and rums and a varied selection of beverages, liqueurs, beers and spirits of international brands, as well as delicious espressos throughout the day.
Coconut Café is adjacent to the pool and offers a wide variety of fruit coladas served in fresh coconuts, as well as health line cocktails and tropical fruits, from mid-morning till late afternoon.
Overlooking the Indian Ocean near the water sports centre, the Beach Bar is open every day mid-morning till late. In a relaxed atmosphere with a spectacular sea view, the bar offers fresh fruit juices, vegetable juices, milk-shakes and other beverages as well as a superb selection of espressos. Food consists of Mauritian snacks, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, and exotic ice-cream at lunchtime as well as pastries and pancakes for afternoon tea. A beach golf-cart provides refreshments mid-morning till late afternoon.
Dance to the music of the resort’s resident band every night and enjoy our themed shows featured several nights a week.

Kids Club
Open 12 hours a day, the Sun Kids’ Club welcomes children from 2 to 11 years to a safe and fun environment. The Kids’ Club is staffed by our qualified and experienced team members who are on hand to listen to your child’s needs. Thanks to especially designed equipment and the creativity of our Kids’ Club team, the La Pirogue Sun Kids’ Club provides a wide variety of both fun and educational activities that focus on your children having a good time. Mini-golf, tennis, wind-surfing, swimming and excursions are some of the many activities on offer. Special menus, buffets and barbecues are prepared for children attending the Sun Kids’ Club.
As children aged 2 and 3 years need a little extra attention, it is necessary to hire a babysitter for each child (available on request, this service incurs a supplementary fee).
Activities including sports, trips, excursions and party nights are also available for teenagers aged between 12 and 17 years. No longer children but not quite adults; teenagers need an outlet for all of their energy and to have fun on holiday. The Teens’ Club is a means for everyone to enjoy their family holiday in Mauritius, exactly as they want.
Spa
Pamper yourself at the Aura Spa with a host of beauty and body treatments provided by our team of professional Spa therapists at our sister-hotel, the Sugar Beach. Treatments are given in a calm and luxurious environment and this Mauritian spa has fantastically appointed cabins for individual or couple private treatments plus an exclusive Hammam and a dedicated Shiatsu treatment room.
You will be able to choose from massages, facials and other treatments promoting the well-being of body and mind. Truly a chance to relax and indulge yourself in beautiful surroundings. Planted in an utterly exotic savannah setting, Tamarina’s exclusive golf estate offers an exceptional championship course for aficionados, amateurs or starters alike. Offering great driveways, the course is 15 minutes from La Pirogue Hotel.
In the east of the island the stupendous golf course on Île aux Cerfs, is available to guests of La Pirogue at preferential rates. Designed by Bernhard Langer, the 18-hole championship golf course of extraordinary concept and flawless execution has been described as the ‘wonder of the game’.
