Mauritius is one of South Africa’s favourite holiday destinations!

Great news for travellers between South Africa and the tropical island destination of Mauritius! South African Airways (SAA) has increased its number of flights to meet the growing demand for this beautiful destination.

The national flag carrier is delighted to announce the relaunch of its service to Mauritius with a daily morning flight, which took off in November 2021. And there’s more good news! SAA is adding another morning flight between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Mauritius.

We are delighted to announce that, as of 1 December 2024, SAA customers will have the fantastic option of two daily morning departure times from Johannesburg between the two destinations.

The first flight, SA190, departs Johannesburg at 09:40, arriving in Mauritius at 15:40.
The second flight, SA192, will depart Johannesburg at 10:45, arriving in Mauritius at 16:45 (local time).
And the return flights from Mauritius are as follows in local time: 16:30, arriving in Johannesburg at 18:55
SA 193, departing Mauritius at 17:35, arriving in Johannesburg at 20:00
“We are thrilled to announce that we are increasing the frequency of flights to Mauritius in response to the overwhelming demand from leisure and business travellers,” said SAA’s Interim Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Tebogo Tsimane.

“There’s no doubt about it, Mauritius is one of South Africa’s favourite holiday destinations! It’s the perfect tropical island getaway, and it’s just four hours away from Johannesburg! . And there’s more! Mauritius is also an important investment destination and financial services hub, with many major South African companies and brands expanding their operations on the island.

Increasing frequencies of the current destinations is a key component of SAA’s growth strategy.

“As intra-African trade gains traction on the back of the African Continental Free Trade Area, SAA plans to be the premium airline of choice to connect Africans and transport goods. The Africa region presents exciting growth opportunities and is pivotal in our future plans,” concluded Tsimane, with a smile.

Mauritius has done it again! The island paradise has reaffirmed its position as a premier Indian Ocean destination with four significant awards at the 2023 World Travel Awards (WTA) – Indian Ocean Region.

This annual event is all about celebrating the very best in travel, tourism and hospitality. The WTA is the most prestigious awards programme in global tourism, and the winners are chosen by votes from travel industry professionals and the public. The winners were announced at a glitzy evening held at Atlantis The Royal, Dubai, on 15 October.

The incredible Mauritius has it all! Lush forests, untamed waterfalls, unique wildlife, rugged mountains and palm-fringed white beaches. Not to mention world-class luxurious resorts, romantic settings and a focus on sustainable tourism. Vaccinated Guests

Full opening of the island!
You must be fully vaccinated to freely explore our island and its attractions throughout your holiday.
It is mandatory to arrange COVID-19 insurance health cover (Mauritian citizens, resident permit holders and occupational permit holders are exempted)
To enter Mauritius, you must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.
COVID-19 testing will be required upon arrival (day 0) and on day 5 of your stay.

Unvaccinated Guests

To enter Mauritius, you must present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure.
It is mandatory to arrange COVID-19 insurance health cover (Mauritian citizens, resident permit holders and occupational permit holders are exempted)
You must book a quarantine stay.
You will be required to stay in your hotel room for 14 nights.
You will have a PCR test on arrival, day 7 and day 14.
After a negative PCR test on day 14, you can freely explore the island and move to new accommodation or go home.
